The Kelowna Wine Country Half Marathon accentuates the amazing beauty of the Okanagan Lake and the surrounding valley. The course offers eye-popping vistas along the route and runs through scenic county roads, landmarks, greenways and lakefront parks, finishing in Waterfront Park for the trademark Wine & Music Festival. It’s hard to imagine a more scenic and engaging course, anywhere.

Please note that one form of Photo ID is required to pick up your wrist band for the wine tastings and beer garden at the Wine and Music Festival. Every runner must wear a wristband to enter the festival area. Drinking age is 19.

The race has a limited-size field designed to offer our participants and their guests the finest destination experience possible. A team competition and two-person relay are offered. Runners and fast walkers must be able to complete the course in 3 hours and 30 minutes, keeping a pace of 10 min/km (16 minutes per mile).

This thriving region in British Columbia is producing fantastic award winning wines, craft beers and ciders which are difficult to find (or purchase) anywhere else. We encourage bringing your friends, family and running partners to spend time to enjoy this beautiful recreational area that runs along Okanagan Lake. Saturday is race day but activities begin on Friday. We welcome you to beautiful British Columbia, Canada for the Kelowna Wine Country Half Marathon!

Rules

Please line up at the start according to your pace. Elite runners will be positioned at the front with runners lining up behind them by mile pace. Please look for the pace signs posted along the start chute to guide your position. Please do not line up ahead of your pace time! This is chip timed so your time will officially begin when you cross the timing mat at the start line. Top 3 overall are on gun time. Take extra caution as you start the race!

Cones on the Roadways
ALWAYS stay inside of the cones on the roadways. Runners should stay to the right of the cones at all times unless otherwise marked by arrows and chalk. Straying outside of the defined cone line is dangerous and is not allowed.

Rollerblades, Skateboards, Animals & Bicycles
NO roller blades, skateboards, animals or bicycles on course without permission. Baby strollers designed for runners are permitted but must begin at the back of the starting line.

Portable Music
Portable music with headphones are allowed but must be kept at low volume so runners can hear approaching traffic and verbal instructions from law enforcement and volunteers.

Please obey law enforcement officers, course officials and volunteers at all times!
They are positioned on course for your safety. In rare cases, law enforcement may require runners to stop to allow traffic to pass. Failure to obey law enforcement and volunteers may result in removal from the course and disqualification.

You must be a registered runner to compete in the race
If not, you will be removed from the course by officials and banned from future participation. Be courteous to other runners and volunteers and beware at all times on course!

Cancellations

Entry fees are non-refundable.

We appreciate you, as our customer, and understand that sometimes you just can’t make the race. We have created a great policy that offers you several different options, in the event you cannot attend on race day. (You may choose only one of the options below)

Defer Your Entry: You may defer your entry to one of our sister events within the Wine Country Half Marathon Series (excepting Napa to Sonoma). Deferrals are allowed and must be processed by the Event registration manager. An administration fee of $25 will be charged in the event you defer. Deferrals expire after 12 months. The athlete may request a deferral by submitting an email request prior to June 15, 2018.

Transfers: You may not give or sell your number to anyone else. However, bib transfers are allowed for an administration charge of $25 and must be processed through the ACTIVE Network registration portal no later than June 15, 2018. If you transfer you bib, you will receive a refund (minus the $25 administration charge) once the new participant signs up. The new runner will pay the full cost of the entry fee.

Requests Made Post-Race: Deferrals requests made after the race will be handled on a case by case basis. If a request is received within two weeks of the event and is approved, the participant will be given a 50% off code to register for the following year’s race.  If the request is received after that two week period, Motiv Sports is not able to offer any type of deferral.

Purchase Event Insurance: The Booking Project offered through the ACTIVE Network, provides insurance to runners so that they can get their entry fees back if they can’t participate in running events for covered reasons. The product, called Registration Protector is located in the registration path on Active. All refunds and claims will go through The Booking Project.

Transfers + Credits

There are no registration refunds. However, if you are not able to use your registration for any reason you have two options:

1. Pay a $20 fee to transfer your registration to another individual.

Transfers may be processed up to and including the Race Expo (Cost $20) and must be initiated by the person seeking to transfer their registration.

Transfer Prior to June 15th

To complete the process, the original registrant will navigate here, will locate their race registration, and will select “Transfer to another athlete.” After selecting this option, they will be prompted to enter the new participant’s email address on the following page. The new participant will then be invited to claim the transfer via email where they will be directed to checkout on Active.com.

Once the new participant has accepted and checked out with the registration, the original participant will be refunded their registration, less the $20 transfer fee. The new runner will be provided a bib and packet.

On or After June 15th

The person receiving the transfer must process transfers at the Race Expo. The new runner should get the necessary info from the original registrant, fill out the Transfer Form, and bring it to the the expo where they will pay for their registration. Once received, the original participant’s registration refund will be processed and they will receive the refund less the $20 transfer fee.

2. Pay a $50 fee to defer your registration to any Destination Races event open for registration within the 2018 Race Series (except Napa-to-Sonoma).

The deferral policy applies to any Destination Races event within the 2018 Race Series (registration for the race must still be open and not sold out). You may choose this option by navigating here, logging into your dashboard, and selecting “Transfer to Another Event.”

You must process your deferral at least 7 days prior to the race. No deferrals will be accepted for any reason once we are within 7 days of the race.

Timing & Results

The race is chip timed to provide accurate and fair results for runners. Runners will receive a chip and gun time in the results. Top 3 overall finishers are based on gun time, all other finisher results use chip time results. The timing chips are disposable and do not need to be returned.

Gear Check

A gear check area is provided at the start and relay transition areas for runners to place their warm-ups and other items in the bag provided by race staff. Write your bib number and name on the bags and they will be transported to the finish area for pickup. Any items left at the event will be donated to charity after 14 days.

Weather

The climate in the Okanagan Valley in early June is typically ideal for a road race. Temperatures during race time average between the 12°-18° C (mid 50s to mid 60s F). The high temperature in the afternoon could range from 18°-27° C (65°F to 85°F).

There is very little precipitation in June, although it is recommended that runners bring adequate clothing for a range of temperatures and conditions. There is exposure to the sun on this course so please wear sunscreen.
