When and how can I register for the event?
Registration for next year’s race is already open. You may register online here. Please note that we do not accept paper registrations.
Can I pay with cash for my registration fee?
Unfortunately, we do not accept cash or check.
How do I know if I am registered?
Our system should have sent you a confirmation email at the time of registration. Please check your spam/junk email folders. You may also log into your active.com account and select “My Events”.
I paid for my registration and received a confirmation email but I am not seeing the event listed in “My Events” within my active.com portal?
In certain circumstances, you may need to claim your registration. NOT TO WORRY, simply email us at [email protected] and we will be happy to walk you through the process.
I won’t be able to attend the event. Can I give my bib to someone else?
No. You may not sell or just give your bib to another person. Please do not do this as you jeopardize not only that runner’s safety but the safety of other runners on the course. In the event, you cannot race we offer a very flexible policy with several options. It is posted under Race Info.
When and where do I pick up my race number?
All Runners are required to pick up their bib and shirt at our Active LifeStyle expo prior to the race. Please visit the expo page of our website for more details including address, hours etc..
Do you mail bibs?
We are happy to offer a Race Bib Delivery Option for all our events. Please note this option is only available for a certain time prior to race weekend. No shirts will be mailed. If you purchased the Bib Mail Delivery option, we still encourage you to join us at the Expo to pick up your shirt. Should you not be able to attend, you can pick up your shirt on race morning BEFORE the start of the race.
I Paid for the Race Bib Delivery. Haven’t received it. What should I do?
If you paid for race bib delivery but still haven’t received it, simply email our team at [email protected] We will be happy to provide you with a solution.
Can someone else pick up my race packet at the expo?
The Active Lifestyle Expo is part of the fun and open to everyone – you do not want to miss it. If you need to have a friend or family member pick up your packet please be sure:
• You have signed the electronic waiver in your active.com account.
• Provided them a copy of your registration confirmation email.
• Provided a copy of your photo ID.
What times do the races start?

How early should I get there?
Arrive EARLY. We are anticipating thousands of people on race morning and you do not want to be late. Please plan on arriving an hour prior to the start of your race to allow plenty of time to park, get ready, stretch and make your way to the start line.
Gear check will be available. You will need to bring your own bag and use the tag provided on your bib. Your race number will be your claim tag. DO NOT leave any valuables. We are not responsible for any lost/damaged items in gear storage.
Can I start early/late?
For the safety of all participants, you must start in your assigned wave. We need to ensure that all course marshals are in position, medical teams are ready and AID stations are fully prepared. If you signed up for the Half Marathon you cannot start with the Full Marathoners. If you are an adaptive athlete, please email us at [email protected] so we can arrange to accommodate you.
Do you have a pace team?

What kind of nutrition will be available on the course?
Our AID stations along the course will have:
• Nuun Electrolyte
• Clif Gel
Nuun Performance combines optimal electrolytes + carbohydrates that helps your body absorb the most water, electrolytes and nutrients during intense workouts over 90 minutes in length.

Are strollers allowed?
Strollers are allowed on the Half Marathon and 5K courses ONLY. For everyone’s safety, we request participants with strollers/joggers place themselves at the rear of the corral.
Are dogs allowed?
In compliance with NASTF course rules, dogs are neither allowed in the corrals nor on the course. You are welcome to bring your dogs to watch the race.
The Surf City USA® Marathon welcomes and encourages accomplished athletes to participate in this event, as we do athletes of all abilities. We are thrilled when “elite” athletes select this event to compete. In certain circumstances, we are happy to offer a complimentary entry to those particular athletes who demonstrate a special ability and can bring something unique to the event. We do not offer travel reimbursement, appearance fees, or accommodations as incentives for “elite” athletes to participate.
Should you be interested, please submit at least 3 race results from the past 2 years to [email protected].
Each application will be carefully reviewed and we will be happy to accommodate athletes as long as space remains.
Is there a prize money?
$1,000 will be awarded to the first male and first female to break the course record in each the half and full marathon. To qualify, a participant must be the first to cross the finish line and break the course record. A bonus is available only to the first place finisher. Per USATF rules, gun time is used to determine finish time.

You must complete the course within 6 hours. PCH will be reopening to traffic starting at 1:30 PM.

We employ only licensed, certified and seasoned Emergency Medical Technicians that have access to the most up-to-date, state of the art equipment necessary for the health and welfare of staff members, performers, and spectators.

Transfer Requests From One Distance to Another
If you are already registered for the event, you can transfer or upgrade from one category to the other, AS LONG AS THERE IS STILL SPACE AVAILABLE in the race in which you want to transfer.
Upgrading from the Half to the Full Marathon
• Transfers from the Half to the Full Marathon are NOT guaranteed.
• Email us at [email protected] to request your race transfer
• NOTE: There will be a charge covering the difference between your initial payment and the current Full Marathon price.
Downgrading from the Full to the Half.
• Transfers from the Full Marathon to the Half are NOT guaranteed and must be submitted prior to the event.
• Email us at [email protected] to request your race transfer. There is a fee. We are carefully monitoring all transfers in order to ensure the quality of our event.
• Depending on when the request is submitted, your bib might not reflect the change but the timing chip will be updated.
Cancellations – Refunds
Entry fees are non-refundable.
We appreciate you, as our customer, and understand that sometimes you just can’t make the race. We have created a great policy that offers you several different options, in the event you cannot attend on race day. You can choose one of the options below:
Defer Your Entry: You can defer your entry to another date or event within the Surf City event portfolio. Deferrals are allowed and must be processed by the Event registration manager. An administration fee of $25 will be charged in the event you defer. Deferrals expire after 12 months. An athlete can request a deferral by submitting an email request prior to January 1, 2018.
Purchase Event Protection: Booking Protect is offered through the ACTIVE Network and provides insurance to runners so that they can get their entry fees back if they can’t participate in running events for covered reasons. The product, called Booking Protect is located in the registration path on Active. All refunds and claims will go through Booking Protect.
Transfers: You must not give or sell your number to anyone else. Bib transfers are allowed for an administration charge of $25 and must be processed through the ACTIVE Network registration portal no later than 1/16/18. The purpose of a transfer is so that the original participant is able to receive a partial refund of their registration fees. In order for this to happen, the registration fee must be paid in full by the original participant. Once the recipient has accepted and completed the transfer, the original registrant will be canceled and refunded. Refunds are processed within 5-7 business days. The transfer fee is $25 and it will be deducted automatically from the refund.
