Trail Shoe Review: On Running Cloudventure Peak

Price: $150

6mm heel-toe drop; 9.4 oz. (men’s size 9.0); 7.4 oz. (women’s size 7.0)

The Scoop: A lightweight, performance-oriented trail running shoe with an innovative cushioning technology and clean, modern aesthetic.

Who’s it best for? Runners who prefer a modest amount of cushioning and an agile, low-to-the-ground feel while running or racing over mild to moderately technical trails.

What’s New? On Running shoes feature innovative cushioning pods built into the outsole, offering varying degrees of impact protection and responsiveness at different points of the shoe. Combined with the firm midsole and subtle but effective traction, it serves up a nimble, performance-oriented ride and an eagerness to run fast.

What we like best/least: This is one of the best-fitting trail running shoes we tested this summer. The flexible but supportive upper accommodates a wide range of foot shapes without inhibiting natural foot flex and movement. The reinforced heel creates a secure, locked-down fit in the heel, while the toe box is just wide enough to allow toes to splay. The only drawback with the Cloudventure Peak is that it doesn’t offer much in the way of trail-specific protection, making feet vulnerable to sidewall abrasion impacts and stubbed toes.
