A portion of the net proceeds from the 2018 adidas Shamrock Run Portland will benefit Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation provides power, potential, and promise for one of America’s leading pediatric health centers: Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. The commitment and generosity of thousands of donors – individuals, companies, foundations, and organizations – help make possible comprehensive and innovative health care, education, and research at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital for the children of Oregon and southwest Washington.
Your children might have your eyes, your hair or your smile; but they do not have your same healthcare needs. Whether it is a highly specialized surgical procedure, a simple treatment for an early childhood infection, an immunization or preventive screening, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital cares for children as unique individuals. We focus on their constantly changing needs as they grow and develop.
Forget “super sizing.” In our hospital, and in our primary care and specialty practices, we are into “kid-sizing.” Our caregivers have special medical expertise and compassion. And yet, we also know that playrooms and outdoor playgrounds, special medications, and schedules that include extra time and more monitoring are important when caring for children. Computers allow our hospital patients to remain close to their friends and classmates, and we have designed activities and services to help take the fear out of treatments and surgeries.
Doernbecher’s doctors, nurses and staff are exclusively dedicated to caring for kids in a way that includes parents from start to finish. Our belief in this type of family-centered care is what gives our children’s hospital a special place in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. With practices on Marquam Hill, in Portland’s Bethany and South Waterfront neighborhoods, we’re convenient, too.
Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation
During the past 22 years, Shamrock Run Portland has made charitable gifts totaling more than $1.3 million.
Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation has been the principal beneficiary of the Shamrock Run for the past 21 years. Shamrock has donated more than $550,000 to Doernbecher during this time. The Foundation provides power, potential and promise for one of America’s leading pediatric health centers: Doernbecher Children’s Hospital at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland.
The Shamrock Run has also donated nearly $500,000 to various school athletic, performing arts and community service programs during the past two decades. Shamrock is privileged to have the help of more than 800 “volunteer” workers who serve as course marshals, staff water stations, issue bib numbers, work at gear check, help at the start and finish line, hand out T-shirts, assist at the Fitness Fair and other important Shamrock functions.
Nearly all of these workers come from various high school groups such as the Aloha HS Key Club, Franklin HS track, Grant HS lacrosse, softball and track teams and the Royal Blues who perform at the start area, Highland Park Middle School Jazz Band, Rex Putnam HS football and baseball, Rex Putnam Baseball, and many more. In return for these outstanding and enthusiastic workers, the Shamrock Run makes a donation to their respective school program.
In 2012, the Shamrock Run established the Shamrock Super Team concept. Company or special interest teams with more than 75 adult members receive a “rebate” from Shamrock in the form of a donation to the non-profit organization of their Super Team’s choice at the rate of $5 per adult team member. In the past five years, the Shamrock Run has made contributions totaling nearly $150,000 to such local non-profit groups as The Bicycle Transportation Alliance, The Children’s Book Bank, Clark College Foundation, Forest Park Conservancy, Girls on the Run, I Paid It Forward, Playworks, Oregon Food Bank, University of Portland and many others.
