Shamrock Run Portland

Founded in 1979, the adidas Shamrock Run Portland is the largest running and walking event in Oregon and is the third largest running event in the western United States. In 2018, 30,000 participants will celebrate the 40th edition of the event on Sunday, March 18 at Waterfront Park in downtown Portland.

The adidas Shamrock Run offers competitive races at 5 kilometers (3.1 miles), 8 kilometers (4.97 miles), 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) and a half-marathon (13.1 miles) with a field limit of 3000 runners. Shamrock also offers the Shamrock Stride – a 4-mile fitness walk – and the “Blazers Leprechaun Lap,” a 1km (0.6-mile) run/walk for children age 10 and younger.

All the courses start at Waterfront Park near SW Oak and Naito Parkway and run through the center of downtown Portland for a fun urban experience and feature slightly downhill final sections. The 15k and half-marathon routes include the challenging, and scenic, Terwilliger hills. The new Shamrock Stride 4-mile walk boasts city views and a river walk including the Tilikum Crossing and Steel Bridges.

Shamrock Sunday activities in the finish area include the Widmer Brothers Brewing beer garden, complimentary hot soup and an entertainment stage with performances from local musicians. Music is featured at the starting line and along the Shamrock routes. Hours for the post-event festivities: 8 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in Waterfront Park.

Shamrock Weekend kicks-off with the adidas Shamrock Run Fitness Fair. This two-day event at the Oregon Convention Center on March 16 and 17 is in conjunction with Shamrock participant bib number and T-shirt pickup. The Fitness Fair features more than 80 running and fitness exhibitors, celebrities and mascots, contests and give-aways and a Leprechaun Lane area for kids. More than 25,000 people attend the Shamrock Fitness Fair, presented by Moda Health.

The adidas Shamrock Run is sponsored by adidas, Widmer Brothers Brewing, OHSU Sports Medicine, Moda Health, and the Portland Trailblazers. The primary beneficiary of the event is Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation, which has been affiliated with Shamrock for the past 21 years.

The adidas Shamrock Run offers $4 off entry fees for members of teams with 12 or more participants and special perks for Team Captains! If registering as a team member, be sure to select the appropriate event in the team category, i.e. “5k – Team Member.”

Bib Number Pick-Up

         New this year – pick-up on event day will NOT be available!

But here are ways to get yours before race day:

  1. Join a Team of 12 or more!  Team members get special discounts and all bibs and t-shirts are shipped to the Team Captains so you get yours before anyone else during the first week of March.
  2. Non-team members can get their bibs and t-shirts at the Shamrock Run Fitness Fair, presented by Moda Health, in EXHIBIT HALL B at the Oregon Convention Center.  For runners, your timing chip is attached to the back of your bib number.
  3. Have a friend pick-up your bib for you at the Shamrock Fitness Fair (non team members only).

2018 Shamrock Run Street Closures

(subject to change)

The 40th annual adidas Shamrock Run will be held on Sunday, March 18 in downtown Portland with nearly 30,000 participants. Listed below are the various streets that will have temporary closures for the event:

Naito Parkway/Front Avenue, between NW Everett and NW 26th Avenue will be closed in both directions from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Naito Parkway, from NW Davis to SW Jefferson, will be closed in both directions from 5:45 a.m. to 1:15 pm.

SW Naito Parkway, from SW Columbia to SW Barbur Blvd, will be closed in both directions from 7:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

SW Barbur Blvd SOUTHBOUND only from SW Sheridan to SW Hamilton, will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

SW Barbur Blvd SOUTHBOUND only from SW Hamilton to SW Parkhill, will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

SW Capitol Highway from SW Barbur to SW Terwilliger will be closed in BOTH directions from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

SW Terwilliger Boulevard, NORTHBOUND ONLY, from SW Capitol Highway to SW 6th Avenue, will be closed from from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Reminders:

All downtown streets WEST of SW 1st Avenue will remain open all morning.

All bridges will remain open in both directions throughout the event. However, the ramp to Barbur Blvd at the west end of the Ross Island Bridge will be closed from 6:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Directions to Waterfront Park and Parking

HOW TO GET TO WATERFRONT PARK ON SHAMROCK RUN SUNDAY

The event site is at Waterfront Park in downtown Portland, which is located next to SW Naito Parkway between Pine and Salmon Streets.

From I-5 North (south of Portland), connect onto I-405 North and take the 4thAvenue exit. Continue north on SW 4th Avenue to Stark Street. Turn right onto Stark and look for parking in this area. Waterfront Park and the start area are four blocks east.

From I-5 South (north of Portland), take the City Center/Morrison Bridge exit and follow the signs to SW Naito Parkway.

From I-84 West (east of Portland), connect onto I-5 South and then take the City Center/Morrison Bridge exit and follow the signs to SW Naito Parkway.

From Highway 26 (west of Portland), take the Market Street exit and continue east on Market to SW 2nd Avenue. Turn left onto SW 2nd and continue north to SW Stark Street. Look for parking in this area. To reach Waterfront Park and the starting area, walk two blocks east on Stark.

Taking MAX or TriMet is an easy way to get to the Shamrock Run and saves the inconvenience of finding a place to park. For the best routes and schedules, call 503/238-RIDE (7433) or go to www.trimet.org.

MAX riders should step off at SW 1st and Oak Street and walk one block east to SW Naito Parkway and the start area at Waterfront Park.

Downtown Parking Lots and Garage

City Center Parking operates a number of pay lots and garages in downtown Portland that are near Waterfront Park. Go to www.citycenterparking.com and click on the tab entitled “Lot Locator.”

Enter the distance you want from “Waterfront Park in Portland, Oregon” in the lot locator tool. The program will display a list of surface lots and garages in order of proximity to Waterfront Park. These lots and garage require a fee to park.

Cancellations and Transfer/Credit

How to Change Events/Distances at Shamrock

Entry fees are non-refundable.

Child entries are not eligible for our deferral or transfer policies. 

We appreciate you, as our customer, and understand that sometimes you just can’t make the race. We have created a great policy that offers you several different options, in the event you cannot attend on race day. (You may choose only one of the options below):

Defer Your Entry: You may defer your entry to another date or event within the Motiv event portfolio. Deferrals are allowed and must be processed by the Event registration manager. An administration fee of $25 will be charged in the event you defer. Deferrals expire after 12 months.

Purchase Event Protection: Booking Protect, offered through the ACTIVE Network, is insurance to runners so that they can get their entry fees back if they can’t participate in running events for covered reasons. Booking Protect can be purchased only at check out, is located within the registration path on Active. All refunds and claims will go through Booking Protect.

Transfers: You may not give or sell your number to anyone else. Bib transfers are allowed for an administration charge and must be processed through the ACTIVE Network registration portal.

Event Category Transfers

Per our event policy, you as the participant have the ability to change event distances until February 18, 2018 via your Active account. If you have received your bib number, or if you want to change distances after February 18th, you must bring your bib number to the Shamrock Fitness Fair at the Oregon Convention Center to make the change. Go to the Solutions table. There is no charge to move down in distance, but fees will be applied to move to a longer distance.

Below are instructions to change your event category before 2/18/18 after accessing My Events at ACTIVE.com.

  1. ​​Click Change event category
  2. Select new category
  3. Fill registration form
  4. Click Continue
  5. Review cart
  6. Click Check out

Note: Category change for registrations made by someone else on your behalf (if you are an adult) can be edited by that person or by yourself after you Claim Registration in MyEvents; registrations for those who are part of a group-registration team cannot be changed from participant side, please contact the organizer directly for help.

Note: Participants may only transfer to a category that is open for registration. If the category you would like to transfer to is full or no longer open to accept registrations, please contact the organizer for further help. 

Bib Transfers

Sorry, but we will not issue a refund for entry fees. But, you may transfer your registration to another participant until February 18, 2018 via your Active.com account for the same distance/event for $25. See the procedure below for transferring a bib number to another person. If you would like to transfer your bib to someone else after 2/18/18, please contact us, or bring your bib number to the Shamrock Fitness Fair at the Oregon Convention Center to make the change at the Solutions table.

To transfer your bib before February 18, 2018:

  1. Login to Myevents.active.com
  2. Click Transfer registration to another athlete
  3. Enter the recipient’s email address at Email address
  4. Enter the recipient’s email address again to confirm at Confirm email address
  5. Click Submit

A confirmation message appears verifying that the transfer process was initiated. The accepting participant will receive an email inviting them to claim the registration and they may refer to the instructions in the article Accept Registration Transfer.

Note: Registrations for someone below 18 can only be viewed and transferred by the guardian who registered them; registrations made by someone else on your behalf (if you are an adult) can be transferred by that person or by yourself after you Claim Registration in MyEvents; registrations for those who are part of a group-registration team cannot be transferred.

Note: Transfers may only be completed into the same category – if the original registration was for a 5K, the new registration must also be for the 5K. If permitted by the organizer, the new participant may change event categories after the fact.

Note: The newest price is applied at checkout when the recipient accepts the transfer. 

Note: Once the recipient has accepted and completed the transfer, the original registrant will be cancelled and refunded. Refunds are processed within 5-7 business days. If a transfer fee is applied, it will be deducted automatically from the refund. For example, if the original registrant paid $25 and the transfer fee is $5, he/she will be refunded $20.
