PORTLAND’S PARTY IN THE STREETS!

It’s Portland’s largest Fun Run!  Join thousands ofrunners for the 40th anniversary of the Starlight Run, a 5k (3.1-mile) run on the PGE/SOLVE Starlight Parade route on Saturday evening in front of more than 250,000 spectators. In the last 39 years, more than 138,000 runners have covered more than 400,000 miles of fun in this sanctioned Rose Festival event!

DATE, RULES AND SAFETY

Starlight Night, Saturday, June 2, 2018 – 7:45 p.m.

Please help us have a safe event.  Wearing headphones is discouraged.  Bicycles, skateboards, unicycles,  strollers,  in-line and roller skates and dogs/pets should be left at home.  Open to RUNNERS only who can maintain a minimum 14 minute per mile pace. This is NOT a walking event. Please do not run back along the parade route during the run or after its completion.

PLEASE NOTE:  Safety searches of any bag larger than the size of a football will take place at the field entrances. Plan accordingly – the following items will not be allowed inside the field area: Coolers, glass, alcohol, large bags or closed containers, weapons, chains, baseball bats, stakes, tobacco products, illegal substances.

WHERE

Downtown Portland

The event starts and finishes at the Lincoln High School field between SW Jefferson and SW Salmon on SW 16th, on the west side of the school.

COSTUME CONTEST

Join the fun in the prize-filled costume contest.  Categories for youth, individuals and groups.  You must be a registered participant to enter.  Find all the details here.

Costume contest participants must adhere to “tasteful” criteria standards.   Please remember that this is a family event and plan your costume for a “G (general)” audience.

DJ DANCE PARTY!

We’ll have you ready to party with a DJ dance party before AND after you run.

START AND FINISH AREA

In addition to our costume contest, we have exhibits, giveaways, games and kids activities on the field at Lincoln High.  You can check a SMALL bag of extra clothing at “Gear Check,” too.  Refreshments will be available for all finishers.

Packet Pickup

Bib numbers and t-shirt (if purchased) will be available for pick-up on site at the event at Lincoln High School field beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2.  The field is located in downtown Portland on SW 16th between SW Salmon and SW Jefferson Streets

Transportation

It’s parade night too, so traffic will be busy in downtown Portland.  Plan on carpooling to the run or take Tri Met or MAX Light Rail (to the King’s Hill OR Providence Park station) downtown.  Schedules may change on this special evening.  Call Tri Met at 503-238-RIDE or check their website for more information (trimet.org).

Weather and Water

Be prepared for warm summer evening weather.  Due to the nature of being on the parade route, no water stations are available on-course.  Most of the downtown route is in the shade of tall buildings as the sun sets behind Portland’s West Hills.  Please bring your own full water bottle if you need personal hydration on the 5k course.  Water will be available post-event at the finish festivities.

Results

The Starlight Run is a Fun Run, with no official results produced or published.  There is an official clock at the start and finish line displaying the time from the official “horn” start of the event.  Check your watches as you start and finish for your personal finish time.
