In this short film called “Failure,” Team Altra Elite Zach Bitter experiences the harsh reality of ultrarunning that sometimes success isn’t in the cards and failure must be thought of as “a guide to what your next step is or what direction to head.” Videographer Derrick Lytle profiles Bitter’s experience at the 2017 Desert Solstice 24-Hour Track Invitational, an event in which runners incessantly run laps around a high school track in Phoenix. Bitter set out to challenge the world record for running 100 miles on the track two years after he set an American record of 11:40:55 at the same event.
