Cool Gear: Kora Xenolith Tech Mid-Layer

Yak wool is a new, yet old-school way to stay warm on the run

Kora Xenolith Technical Mid-Layer, $250

Once you try yak (wool), you’ll never go back.

For outstanding insulation or as an outer layer, Kora’s Xenolith blends merino and yak wools with Polartec Alpha in a flexible, close-fitting top with a deep-zippered collar. The pull-over “Hima-layer” is four-way stretch 70 percent merino and 30 percent yak for the exterior, with a light mesh lining, full wrist coverage and thumb loops. Albeit pricey, this durable piece packs the warmth of a puffy, the performance of a fleece and wears like a first-layer Alpine sweater (including the thermo-regulation and antimicrobial benefits). Consider this a special treat to yourself!
